Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

(Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA, December 21, 2011) One of the WorkingBuildings Companies project managers, Hoy Bohanon, was recently nominated to join the Professional Engineers of North Carolina (PENC) Fellows Class of 2012. The PENC is a professional association of engineers, designed to bring together all technical disciplines and practice areas in the field of engineering.

PENC Fellows are selected from PENC members who have distinguished themselves through significant engineering achievements. In order to be selected to be a PENC Fellow, Hoy was recommended to his PENC Chapter for nomination, nominated by his Chapter, recommended by a special selection committee, and finally approved by the PENC Executive Committee. This lengthy process helps ensure that only the most distinguished and qualified North Carolina engineers are accepted as PENC Fellows.

Hoy’s career thus far has included managing the North Carolina branch of The WorkingBuildings Companies as well as serving as an active participant in shaping ASHRAE guidelines. He is an expert in the field of retro-commissioning, with years of experience including several of the Smithsonian facilities, multiple GSA buildings, and the TIAA-CREF Charlotte Campus. Additionally, Hoy owned a successful business, Bohanon Engineering, for several years before coming to work for The WorkingBuildings Companies.

Hoy balances a busy work life with raising children and supporting his family. As a Georgia Institute of Technology graduate, he is a huge fan of the Yellow Jackets, and makes every effort to attend the football games with his son, a fellow Yellow Jacket. Regarding his nomination to the PENC Fellows, Hoy said “This is quite an honor for me! I am proud of the work I’ve done to achieve this nomination, and am grateful to the PENC for the privilege of being granted this status. I look forward to the years to come of active participation in this organization.”

In addition to being a member of PENC and ASHRAE, Hoy is also a member of the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce, the Piedmont Triad Early Action Compact Stakeholders Group, and is a certified LEED Accredited Professional. He was awarded the ASHRAE Distinguished Service Award in 2009. The award recognizes Hoy’s dedication of time and talent to the ASHRAE Society.
