Kaiser Permanente is expanding throughout the metro-Atlanta area to better meet the needs of patients. They are adding nearly 150,000 square feet of space to their facilities to better serve their patients. Over 100 new jobs will be created at the expansion locations, and the additions will create more comprehensive medical facilities. WorkingBuildings is proud to provide commissioning services to this expansion project.
WorkingBuildings is commissioning the heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems, as well as the plumbing, fire protection, and electrical systems of the Gwinnett Comprehensive Medical Center in Duluth, Georgia. Commissioning the new facilities will ensure that they operate as intended as well as efficiently. The commissioning service provided by WorkingBuildings will allow Kaiser Permanente to keep their operational costs low, resulting in also keeping services to patients affordable.
Kaiser Permanente has set a goal of LEED Silver certification from the United States Green Building Council. This is a facility certification that helps owners define sustainability for their facility. A requirement of the certification process is to have the facility commissioned. “We are excited to aid Kaiser Permanente in achieving their goal of LEED Silver certification in their latest projects,” says Project Executive and Chief Sustainability Officer John McFarland, “This goal will lessen the environmental impact of the facility and improve working conditions for the staff and visitors alike.”
The expansions and new facilities will provide patients with cardiology, nuclear medicine, OB/GYN, pulmonology, urgent care, primary care, and pharmacy services. The number of neighborhood Kaiser Permanente continues to rise, adding 11 new facilities over the last two years. Says Tony Martin, WorkingBuildings’ technical operations manager for the Southeast, of the newest facilities, “Patients can be assured that the partnership between WorkingBuildings and Kaiser Permanente will result in a well-built and efficient structure, catered specifically to their needs.”
The new facilities are located in Duluth and Kennesaw and serve over 47,000 members across metro-Atlanta. It is slated that construction will be completed spring 2012.
